Gambian President Visits Fujian
Gambian President Adama Barrow led a 25-member delegation to Xiamen during December 22-24.
On December 23, Secretary Yu Weiguo met the delegation and updated them on Fujian’s economic and social progress. In their talks, Yu highlighted Fujian’s efforts to develop into a province with flexible mechanisms, competitive industries, a prosperous life and beautiful environment under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
President Barrow underscored Gambia’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and pledged to work towards stronger friendship and cooperation between the two countries. While expressing admiration for China’s achievements, President Barrow said Gambia seeks to draw on Fujian’s experience during the reform and opening-up to enhance its own capacity-building.
Secretary Yu and President Barrow agreed to work together to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors such as tourism, agriculture, energy and infrastructure.
President Barrow also visited Xiamen Planning Exhibition Hall, Gulangyu Island, the Ocean Gate Automated Container Terminal, and held talks with officials from Xiamen Area of the Fujian Pilot Free Trade Zone and Haicang Taiwanese Investment Zone.
