From December 14 to 19, 2016, a delegation of think tanks and mainstream media organizations from India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan visited Fujian, at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. The main purpose of the visit is to learn about Fujians economic and social progress as well as its latest developments as the core area of the Maritime Silk Road, and seek to boost economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges with Fujian.

On December 15, Deputy Director-General Li Hong met the delegation in Fuzhou, briefing them on the progress of Fujian as the core area, as well as its exchanges and cooperation with the four countries. He said that Fujian, as an important starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road and the only core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, will continue to work with countries and regions along the Belt and Road to boost trade, investment, industrial cooperation, infrastructure connectivity, and people-to-people exchange. Mr. Li also answered their questions concerning Fujians economic progress, peoples livelihood, education, health care, and international cooperation.

On December 16, the FAO hosted a seminar on the Maritime Silk Road, during which the Development Research Center of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government, Fujian Development and Reform Commission, and the Department of Commerce introduced major measures, latest developments and future priorities in building the core area, as well as economic cooperation with the four countries. The delegation promised to help bring about an enabling environment for Fujian companies to do business and make investment in their countries.

During their stay in Fujian, the delegation visited some companies and places of historical interest, seeking cooperation in textile, garment, logistics, fishery and real estate development, and experiencing Fujians history of the Maritime Silk Road, the tea culture, and other unique cultures. This visit helps the delegation gain a deeper understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative and Fujian as the core area of the maritime route, putting them in a better position to facilitate friendly exchanges and economic cooperation with Fujian.
